Threads of unity collected threads for more than one shirt

When you think of Pakistani fashions, you know for sure it is not just pieces of fabric sewn together. It is always color, layers, embroidery, beading, layering… lots of effort and love put together to create one garment. So, to attend Pakistani fashion show is always a thrill, – you know there will be many “wows” and “awes” and other exclamations. It is extra bang when you know this show supports those in need – victims of flood.

On Saturday night, February 19, Westin Arlington Gateway was full of that color and sparkle. “Threads of unity” fashion show, featuring Pakistani designer Nomi Ansari, graced the runway and left everybody in pure ecstatic mood. There is so much elegance and femininity to these clothes, no wonder lines formed after the show to buy those off the rack!  There was men collection, too, as well colorful and embroidered.

Shannon Grewer, founder of Fashion for Pakistan flood relief, highlighted in her speech, that there are still tons to be done, although media almost don’t talk about it anymore. It is not “hot” anymore? Yes, tragedy happened more than half year ago, but considering that about 20 million people got directly affected by it, and fifth part of whole country went underwater, the amount of resources needed to rebuild and recover is enormous. And of course, fashion is always there to help.
