Siriano shares the runway with 14 DC designers, resulting 30,000.00 raised

26 Oct

by Yulia Mikhalchuk

On October 21, Pink Jams! hosted “Pink rocks the runway” to raise awareness and funds to help women under 40 beat breast cancer.

Atrium in Ronald Reagan Building was filled with colorful lights, dressed up crowd and live music by “Charm City Devils”. Cocktails and hors d’oeuvres were all around to heat up the anticipation.

Fourteen young survivors “strut their stuff” on the runway, rocking pink outfits specifically made for this event by DC local designers. After each model in pink owned it, “Pink tie guy” took the shift diluting femininity with masculinity.  Finally, so anxiously awaited Christian Siriano‘s collection hit the runway. Fourth season “Project runway” winner Siriano brought to his hometown his whole Spring-Summer 2012 collection (over 30 outfits!). He wowed the crowd with polished corals and lime greens, as well as ruffled neutrals. His lavished, never restrained or modest looks are now recognizable and loved throughout the country.

As a conclusion of the event, Pink Jams!’ President Christa Floresca, flanked by Siriano and Doughty, presented a check for 30 thousand dollars to former First Lady of Washington, DC, Michelle Cross Fenty, for the Capital Breast Care Center.

Guests completed themselves with generously filled swags and lanced to official afterparty  at Hard Rock Cafe.

Pink Jams! intrigued everybody by promising not less exciting program for 2012, and there is no reason not to believe them!

Key to the cure – thirteen annual, and very lucky

23 Oct

by Yulia Mikhalchuk

Four levels of Saks Fifth Avenue Chevy Chase were buzzled up on October 20. Once again SFA and Suburban Hospital combined their resources in fight against women’s cancers. Twelve Survivor Honorees were in attendance and paid tribute for.

At the entrance, you might buy raffle “keys” ($50 each or three for $100) and then get a chance to open (if it fits!) the treasure chest with fabulous prizes.

About 20 restaurants and caterers presented their creations for guests to enjoy, and feast seemed to never end.

Key Photo Memories had never rested, and beautiful models in Saks up-to-date outfits were roaming around for you to rest eyes on.

Special Key To The Cure t-shirts (long sleeved) designed by Elie Tahari were available for sale on each level. If you did not have a chance to do it then, you still can purchase it online right here.

Enjoy some pictures and don’t forget to visit whole gallery of 74.

Local rising star RashidaJolleyTheHarpist released her single on Sunday

18 Jul

by Yulia Mikhalchuk

Gifted_from_Above Rashida Jolley had her single release party happen on Sunday, July 17 in B.Smith’s restaurant Union Station. Many admirers enjoyed the cuisine of the restaurant, and then they had the pleasure seeing and hearing Rashida perform live. Seeing the amount of passion, and strength, and emotion she put into each performance, it’s like Earth will die tomorrow and this song is the last one we are all going to hear…

It was an evening full of thankful heartfelt words, laughter but also tears. Rashida mentioned not once how grateful she is to her family for the continuous unconditional support.

Rashida had smashing success on “America’s got talent” , and recently wowed Mo’Nique of “The Mo’Nique show”.

Jolley’s single “There’s No One Else Like You” is available on iTunes now. Please support our DC very own genuine talent. She will definitely go places.

Enjoy the pictures and video.

Aidah: 3 years old career – prosperity, not crisis

08 May

text and photos by Yulia Mikhalchuk

Local designer Aidah Fontenot celebrated her 3rd anniversary in fashion on Saturday, May 7 in Hillyer Art Space. The place was packed with no single standing spot left, and anxiously awaiting spectators could fairly enjoy a collection of unique dresses and gowns, jumpers and even business suites! Although the fabrics and silhouettes were so variable – from silky and flowy to businessy and well-fitted, you could always recognize “the_aidahs” by signature monogram. The show was hosted by famous  style-setter Paul Wharton, who also helped to raise $1,000 in less than 10 minutes for Girls, Inc. of WDCMA by selling brunch table to share with him and his friend Omarosa. Best tunes in town were delivered by noone else but Neekola and Rex Riot.

True philanthropist would even use his Birthday to give back

07 May

by Yulia Mikhalchuk

Don Patron celebrated his “17″-th Birthday to support “Open door shelter” in Southeast DC. For very famous “Unbirthday Birthday” party more than 300 people RSVP-d and seemed like even more came.  Every guest has been asked to buy a present… for a child in shelter. Those who didn’t have time (or simply didn’t know how) for toy shopping, could simply leave a check made to that charity. Who else but Don knows how to throw a fabulous party where everybody would eat, drink, dance, love and be loved, and enjoy artistic atmosphere of the house! That house was soaked in creativity, and guests felt free to correspond – there were lots of costumes and elements – the party was anything but plain! And, benefited a great cause.
