Shoe greenery on St.Patty’s day

18 Mar

by Yulia Mikhalchuk

I am not particularly in love with “color overkill” on certain days, like red on Christmas, yellow-ish on Easter and… green on St.Patrick’s day. But, to acknowledge you are still on the same boat, and for the “team spirit” it is fun to add some color elements. In this case, let’s talk about shoes! They are always fun to experiment with and hey, let’s face it, there are never too many, why not get another green pair?

So, here are some finding I dug (and had a great pleasure doing so) from various places. Hope you enjoy!

For $175.99, you can have those incredibly cute  LISA FOR DONALD PLINER heels over HERE on 6pm

Love these laced up with mesh detail MACEY flats from ASOS for just $44.76! Over HERE

For their traditional $39.95, JustFab offers these classic Paulette (you have to be registered with them to see):

Adore these 50-60ss POETIC LICENSE ORIENT EXPRESS (also available in other colors) for $99.00 on Zappos HERE

These adorable flops are perfect for running errands but still being a little bit elevated from earth. LILIBET WEDGE SANDALS, b.o.c. by BORN, on sale for $59.99 in Macy’s HERE. “Borns” are always so incredibly comfortable, I recommend having a pair in your car all the time just in case it was “kill the feet by shoes” day.

From casual to incredible we jump, look at these fantastic CHARLOTTE OLYMPIA wire-heel platform sandal from Neiman Marcus “just” for $2,395.00!!! HERE

Very elegant and classy, but still witty Kate Spade New York LATRICE COLORBLOCK SATIN POINT TOE PUMPS from Saks Fifth Avenue, for $298.00, HERE

And finally, cute “dessert” surpsise, green by all means, Vihreä alku Green start 2005, by Finnish designer Annie Rapinoja. I’m guessing, not to buy, not to wear, but just enjoy the piece of art and remember staying green. By all means.

Have a great St.Patrick’s celebration!

January Jones on Mad Men season 5 premiere

15 Mar

by Yulia Mikhalchuk

It is better to be controversial than boring if you want to be talked about. Now being one of the leading stars of “Mad Men” series, and definitely a leading female character, one mustn’t worry about lack of attention. But, there can’t be too much attention. January Jones arrived to season 5 premiere of “Mad Men” in Roland Mouret black cutout dress – the only thing that wasn’t “Betty Draper”. The hair, the make up, the classy black pumps, and even coral nail polish all mirrored our fav “Birdie”. All, except the dress.

Love the color blocking, but the holes resembling a ski mask holes that robbers go to banks in, are just too much, in my opinion. She has much more prettier face up there and the one located on the belly is just pulling “the blanket” too aggressively. Reminded me persistently about bed sheet ghost made by Karlsson (Russian cartoon after Astrid Lindgren book). See the picture.

Fashion star debut, DC resonance

15 Mar

by Yulia Mikhalchuk

“Fashion Star” pilot aired yesterday on NBC and planted quite a buzz among DC fashion peeps. NBC Washington set up a web chat topped by Angie Goff, and co-supported by many DC fashion scientists. Hour and a half of the show, as well as a chat, was concentrated and rockety quick. Even commercial breaks on TV didn’t put off the bubbling conversation on the web.

Garments bought by Macy’s‘, Saks Fifth Avenue’s and H&M’s representatives, were instantly available for sale on stores’ websites, and by this moment some of them are sold out.

Show airs every Tuesday on 10/9c on NBC.

As Angie suggested, there might be Fashion Star viewing parties scheduled in the nearest future.

Nikki Poulos' maxi caftan dress, also in white, sold out on Macy's for $89.00

Zipper mini-skirt available in Saks Fifth Avenue for $350

Sarah Parrott's dress, also in black, sold out on H&M, was $19.95

Edmont Newton's dress, also in black, for $110.00 in Macy's

Lizzie Parker's tunic, plum, also in black and ivory, for $79 in Macy's

Blazer by Nzimiro Oputa, in H&M for $49.95

13 Mar

by Yulia Mikhalchuk

Saturday afternoon lots of Jimmy Choos have been walked off by many passionate fashionistas in private reception room in Saks Fifth Avenue Tysons Galleria. The invite-only event attracted shoe lovers and media (one doesn’t exclude the other), for the trend presentation by Karen Sommer Shalett, Editor-in-Chief of DC Magazine, and a chance to win a pair of Jimmys! Light bites and champagne were served. Ten percent of sales benefited Washington Humane Society.

Neiman Marcus Spring Preview

27 Feb

by Yulia Mikhalchuk

Neiman Marcus of Tysons Galleria presented spring preview showcase on February 22. Guests first enjoyed refreshments and finger foods in NM cafe, and then proceeded to a fashion show.

We celebrate prints  – bolds or demures, graphics or florals; and color – pink is greeted back, neons are on! What appeared to me most and what I always loved – print jackets! Oh, and of course, “yellow is the new neutral”! Sunny, bright, uplifting color is very well appreciated this season. Hurray! Who thought, but sport is truly fashionable now – it surfaces even on dresses, which makes them more accessible and multipurposed.

Enjoy the pictures with commentaries, hope you will find handy information for you. And, let’s have fashion fun this spring (which starts whatever you decide, even if it’s freezing February!)

Gilt City’s warehouse/closet revealed

14 Feb

by Yulia Mikhalchuk

On Friday the 10th Gilt City DC gave access to its treasured warehouse to the VIP/press, with following sale event on Saturday for the public. Long View gallery was buzzing and babbling with excitement of privileged shoppers, digging through goods and sipping on the campaign. Rivers of designers garments, shoes, accessories and whatnot were filtered by DC fashionistas, leaving messy piles behind like 3 year-olds on Halloween playdate. Yours truly attended the first part and it was scary to imagine what has actually happened on Saturday night with about 1000 people RSVPd for the event.

Enjoy some pics which I could not help but treat in randomly vintage-y style. Oh and by the way those granola bars were beyond amazing. What was the brand again? Were eaten ruthlessly.

Tons and tons of stuff! I wonder if there is anything left now?

Bloomingdales in Chevy Chase turned into the runway to let the *Geeks* hit it. Well, geeks have been transformed, too, into gallant gentlemen. They have gliden the walk collecting deafening cheers from all around. Partial proceeds from the event and 10% of shopping gains that evening benefited NFTE. They “walked this way” against domestic violence

05 Nov

by Yulia Mikhalchuk

On Wednesday night, November 2, Andrew Mellon Auditorium was filled with people willing to stop domestic violence for good. Washington Redskins’ Brian Orakro, Anthony Armstrong, DeAngelo Hall, Capitals’ John Carlson, Karl Alzner, Nick Backstrom, DC United’s Ben Olsen, Former Redskins’ Gary Clark, Former Jets’ John Booty and others walked the runway to support Becky’s Fund in their biggest annual fundraiser “Walk This Way”.

Co-hosted by Comcast Sportsnet’s Julie Donaldson and Fox’s Steve Chenevey, this event featured amazing food, fashion, and entertainment all while supporting Becky’s Fund’s efforts in promoting the prevention of domestic and dating violence in our communities. In addition to the fashion show, Art Soiree Co. added an artistic touch to the evening by presenting a special art exhibit of local artists’ work, as part of their Art Can Make A Difference project.

To add colorful glamor to the evening, Maggy Norris Couture smashed the runway getting roaming ovations.

Enjoy the pictures and mark your calendars for Walk This Way 2012!
