Portrait of Georgia in National Portrait Gallery

27 May

by Yulia Mikhalchuk

National Portrait Gallery housed , as it seemed, about thousand people on Tuesday night, May 24, for Portrait of Georgia gathering. The event was to celebrate 20th Anniversary of the restoration of Georgian Independence. All guests were personally greeted at the entrance by Georgia Ambassaador Temuri Yakobashvili and his wife Yana Fremer. 24 years old opera singer Sophie Nizharadze performed both Georgian and American anthems, as well as “Happy Birthday” song to Congressman Doug Lamborn.

All guests could “discover Georgia” through its classic and contemporary art, photography, dance, music, and, of course, wine and food. Georgians are well renowned for their hospitality and generosity. Four original Georgian chefs prepared a fiest, and a river of special Georgian mineral water “Borjomi” and wine would not end. Georgia is the oldest wine making region in the world. According to a legend, on the day God was allocating parts of the world to the people of the Earth, the Georgians were feasting. As a result, they arrived late and were told by God that all of the land had already been distributed. When the Georgians replied that they were late only because they had been lifting their glasses in praise of Him, God was pleased. In return, He gave the Georgians that part of Earth that He had been reserving for Himself.

There is a phenomenon called the Georgian syndrome.

Georgian National Ballet Sukhishvili kept guests ecstatic during whole time of their fantastic performances.

Batik art by Nino Khoperia was on sale, and special 3D  exhibit by Gia Kereselidze was presented to complete the Portrait Of Georgia.

Enjoy the pictures and some video.

by Yulia Mikhalchuk

As a culminations of Chery Blossom Festival, annual Grand Ball and sushi reception took place in Renaissance Washington DC Downtown Hotel on April 8, 2011. Honoring the 2011 NCSS Princesses and the official crowning ceremony of the 2011 United States Cherry Blossom Queen Celebrating the 99th Year anniversary of the first planting of Cherry Blossoms trees. Allison Speaker of Shperdstown, West Virginia was chosen as the 2011 United States Cherry Blossom Queen. Lincoln lifted his hat for a private party

25 Mar

by Yulia Mikhalchuk

Very high anticipated Lincoln restaurant and lounge seemed to have hundreds of people under its roof on Thursday night. O’Neill studios, that renovated and beautified and revamped the whole space, hosted a private viewing event. Free drinks, delicious bites, best-of-the-best decor and atmosphere – what better evening spending you can think of? After such a successful pre-opening party, you can only imagine how overflown it’s going to be on a public opening day!

“Return to the renaissance”  décor is so unique – from all_pennies_floor, “copper” doors, jar “light bulbs”, monochrome paper American flag wall… to ginormous leather chair/sofa, candle chandeliers and misted mirrors.

Maggie O’Neill‘s paintings and Dominique Fierro‘s photography work in the restrooms attracted so much traffic, men into ladies’ and vice versa, those rooms served more as galleries!

Imagine that you come to a museum, and also get the finest food “chefed” by Demetrio Zavala.

Spotted: Maggie O’Neill and her fiancee Chris Roche, Mary Amons of “DC Housewives” with her husband Rich and daughter Lolly, artist Don Patron, Joseph A.Colao III, Erika Paola Gutierrez of epgPR, LLC, Philippa Hughes of “Pink Line Project”, Becky Lee of “Becky’s Fund”, M.Nicole Siobal, Sara Trab Nielsen, Tino Angelov, Tati and Sandro of Art Soiree, Mario De Armas of Lamby Productions, Camelia C.Mazard, Wendy Gordon, Lauri Tamney, Kate Michael, Anchyi Wei and so many more! The owner of the restaurant Alan Popovsky was genuinely missed while being out of town.

Stay tuned for more news, and enjoy the pictures.

Chocolate paws happy hour fundraiser at CO CO SALA

16 Feb

It is International Women’s day! What, you didn’t know it? Check HERE. My favorite part: “...the day lost its political flavour, and became simply an occasion for men to express their love for women in a way somewhat similar to a mixture of Mother’s Day and St Valentine’s Day”

So, how we celebrate it? By spoiling ourselves. We accept flowers. We go beautify ourselves. WE DO…N”T DO ANY HOUSEWORK (UGH!!!) Homework doesn’t count though. We buy ourselves something nice (and get gifts, too). And then we go celebrate our fabulousness and beauty. And femininity. What is all women’s favorite? Chocolate, of course! Chocolate equals love, and hey, there is never too much love you can get!

Come and enjoy the whole lounge kindly provided to our group by
Co Co.Sala – chat, sip, chocolatize yourself and enjoy great company. And hey, guys are invited, as well! Who else is to remind us how precious we are!

I encourage everybody to come, especially my Russian girls, there is no reason for you to miss “Mimosa day” in the States, it_is_International!!!

Those who can’t just_donate, or can’t attend other fundraisers – this is your chance to feel good about supporting a cause, and have deliciousness delivered to your belly, all for Happy_Hour_Prices.

10% of bar sales go to Washington Humane Society.

Please share with your friends!

Happy Spring you all.

10th annual “Sugar and Champagne affair”

04 Feb

by Yulia Mikhalchuk

On Tuesday night ballroom of Ritz Carlton DC transformed into almost Thanksgiving feast in February! Tenth annual “Sugar and champagne affair”, hosted by Chef Todd and Ellen Kassoff Gray of Equinox, attracted hundreds of people with their furry (and not so) companions. Over 40 restaurants and gourmet food trucks presented their best creations for animal lovers – sweets, finger foods and, of course, elite sparkling nectars. “Sugar and champagne”, which started in 2001 as a small fundraiser, now became huge significant event that all the dog owners and dog “wanters” are happy to attend and support. 100% of funds collected benefit Washington Humane Society, which relies solely on donations and does tremendous amount of work. There have not only been many “wealthy” four legged friends, there were also rescued and offered for adoption ones. It is amazing how kind and forgiving dogs are to people, no matter what they have been through, they still are full of love and sparkle and trust.

Spotted: Cheff Todd and Ellen Gray of Equinox restaurant and Watershed, Lisa LaFontaine of WHS, Holly Morris of Fox5, Tommy McFly, Stef Woods, Mark Drapeau of Microsoft, Tara de Nicolas of WHS’s Fashion for paws, Nikki Schwab, Svetlana Legetic, Donna Donella, Wendy Gordon, Leslie Maggos, Dr.Alex Naini, Stephanie Williams and many-many more of DC’s animal lovers.

International Club of DC: Masquerade and Anniversary

25 Oct

Text,  photos and video

by Yulia Mikhalchuk

On the night of October, 23, in  The National Museum of Women in the Arts (can you ever find anything more significant?), International Club of DC delivered Annual Masquerade Ball and Seventh Anniversary Gala. Needless to say, the minute you step into the building, you find yourself like on a movie set. Well where else you are able to see so many tuxedos and gowns and masks at the same time? Classic music, performing by live orchestra, and gracefully twirling couples, just add to the feeling. In such atmosphere digital cameras and advanced cell phones look like alien devices from the future. It was absolutely most elegant evening you can imagine and you would not want to trade it for anything else. Food was absolutely expectational (contemporary, too) – consider yourself forget about diet for a while, although you could easily “dance it off” on this marvelous floor. And, the most important part, you don’t have to be “international” to attend.

Enjoy the montage.
