The 60ss, the steak, and the fashion

29 Mar

by Yulia Mikhalchuk

The night of March 25 was very well anticipated and buzzed about way in advance. It was THE_Mad_Men_night, when season 5 premiere aired. Many venues around the city (public and private) hosted viewing parties, but of course I will tell you about the one I attended, – in Bourbon Steak at Four Seasons DC. Private lounge was pure resemblance of that era, from beautiful outfits to floral table treatments, from waitresses’ uniforms to the drinks’ recipes… The only difference there were… nobody smoked (phew!) Two hours of season kick-off flew in a blink, and food and drinks never ended (too bad somebody had to drive home!)  Please enjoy the pictures!

Regarding the movie itself… I would say, it was “okay” appetizer – good enough to tease but not good enough to fully satisfy. It felt a little flat, like it was rushed and not thought out, like producers decided to rest on the clouds for a while. It would get full house anyway, why bother too much! Of course, fashions were impeccable. To me the most impressive is always not what leading actresses wear, but large crowds appearing on the screen for literally seconds!

Question of the evening – WHERE IS BETTY?

March Martini Madness – MMM

13 Mar

by Yulia Mikhalchuk

It is very curious to me why you have to become mad particularly in March (even new season of “Mad Men” premiers in March), but it is what it is so we are officially allowed to do so. If you choose to go bananas by drinks, and martinis are your favorites, then it is your straight road to Bethesda Row. For the whole month of March, 10 restaurants there are offering their special Row-tinis for happy hour price all day long. Make your pick and visit  one, few, or all of them, – to eat and sip on your favorite.

Patrons can vote for the best Row-tini once a day on Facebook at facebook.com/BethesdaRow and enter to win a $500 dining certificate for up to ten guests from one of the participating restaurants at www.BethesdaRow.comThe winner will be randomly drawn from all entries on BethesdaRow.com.  The winner will be emailed directly and announced on Facebook by April 5, 2012. Dining certificate expires December 31, 2012.

The Style Network luncheon at Michel

09 Feb

by Yulia Mikhalchuk

Last day of January always feels like “it’s almost spring” time. February, although usually the most atrocious of all winter months, always seems just like last step of a ladder. How symbolic it was to have Style Network Luncheon to present the freshest spring pieces that Tysons Galleria retailers will have available! I would tell spring itself already is happy and exciting, but with trends demonstrated it only made it even more anticipated! Lots of colors, unpredictable combinations, patterns, as well as pretty neutrals. See for yourself on the pictures and in person in TG’s boutiques. Spring will be here in a blink. Oh, and of course the most delicious food by magnificent Gusto-like Chef Michel Richard only spruced up the show. Also, there were demonstrations of exquisite cosmetic products, and smashing hairdo’s by Sassoon.

Dreamy, pure colors and striking silhouettes are very in!

“Sugar and champagne” for 11th time – for dogs’ sake

03 Feb

by Yulia Mikhalchuk

First day of February was sweetened and showered with champagne to benefit Washington Humane Society for the 11th time in the row. About 70 restaurants and beverage professionals participated in annual charitable affair, now in Ronald Reagan Building. Every year event grows bigger and represents more vendors, and every year more dog owners come to support (and try all the yummies). It might not be the best environment for dogs to socialize, but it’s definitely the most spacious and the most doggy-crowded place that you can ever find in DC under one roof. Needless to say, besides the mingling, dogs get to try fabulous treats, too.

“Sugar and Champagne” was created 11 years ago by Ellen and Chef Todd Gray of Equinox, Watershed restaurants and Muse at the Corcoran.

Enjoy the pictures and come again next year for 12 annual! Recap of the 10th on DressHopper can be found HERE.

Moms and babies glide the runway

30 Oct

by Yulia Mikhalchuk

The Crowne Plaza Hotel in Silver Spring housed “Baby Bash and Bling” on October 22.

Lots of retailers, offering products and services for expecting families, tons of food (how does “Pickles and ice-cream” corner sound?), seminars and entertainment were provided for the guest.

As a finale, pregginistas rocked spunky and sparkly outfits by local designers, and then the_youngest girls of the party showcased Fall-Winter line of “My Bougie Baby”.

Key to the cure – thirteen annual, and very lucky

23 Oct

by Yulia Mikhalchuk

Four levels of Saks Fifth Avenue Chevy Chase were buzzled up on October 20. Once again SFA and Suburban Hospital combined their resources in fight against women’s cancers. Twelve Survivor Honorees were in attendance and paid tribute for.

At the entrance, you might buy raffle “keys” ($50 each or three for $100) and then get a chance to open (if it fits!) the treasure chest with fabulous prizes.

About 20 restaurants and caterers presented their creations for guests to enjoy, and feast seemed to never end.

Key Photo Memories had never rested, and beautiful models in Saks up-to-date outfits were roaming around for you to rest eyes on.

Special Key To The Cure t-shirts (long sleeved) designed by Elie Tahari were available for sale on each level. If you did not have a chance to do it then, you still can purchase it online right here.

Enjoy some pictures and don’t forget to visit whole gallery of 74.

24th Annual Bark Ball – more bark equals more love

07 Jun

by Yulia Mikhalchuk

On Saturday, June 4, Washington Hilton Ballroom filled with both two- and four-legged attendees for 24th Annual Bark Ball, benefiting Washington Humane Society. Each year, event attracts more and more animal lovers, willing to support their favorite charity – the one that protects underprivileged dogs, cats and others. Bark Ball, the largest annual event of WHS, is also the only black-tie gala in the Nation’s Capital where you can bring your dog as your date!

Along with reception, guests could roam around shopping at the silent auction, which took a lot of “floorage” and contented delightful items from donors. Furry friends (some of them also dressed up for a Ball) enjoyed Doggie Bar (courtesy of Barkley Square Gourmet Bakery and Boutique). As guests with their companions were filling up the tables in spacious Ballroom, some gorgeous ladies were sharing their remarks. Mistress of Ceremonies Allison Seymour of WTTG-TV presented her “not furry child” who was met by genuine laughter and ovations. Gala Committee Chair Beth Viola highlighted the importance of the WHS mission – giving the voice to animals who can’t speak for themselves. WHS Chief Executive Officer Lisa LaFontaine thanked everybody for continuous support through the years. Also took their spotlights on stage  Honorary Committee Co-Chairs, Honorable Ed Whitfield and Connie Harriman-Whitfield, and WHS Board Chairman Steve Bralove.

Evening continued with video presentation and Celebrity Parade, featuring dogs offered for adoption, as well as Live Auction and the most fun part – dancing! Nobody would ask “Who let the dog(s) out” as it was their official  night out!

To celebrate Adopt-A-Shelter-Cat Month this June, the Washington Humane Society (WHS), in collaboration with the American Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals® (ASPCA) and the makers of Fresh Step® litter, is participating in a fee-waived adoption program to help find loving homes for cats. During the month of June, WHS will waive adoption fees on all cats over the age of 2 at both of its shelter locations.

WHS shelters are located at 1201 New York Ave. NE (open during the District Dept. of  Transportation New York Avenue construction project) and 7319 Georgia Ave. NW. In addition, WHS operates a low-cost, high-volume spay and neuter facility at 1001 L St. NE, in the heart of Capitol Hill. The National Capital Area Spay & Neuter Center also hosts a weekly vaccine clinic every Tuesday and Thursday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Additionally, WHS has an animal training facility, the Behavior and Learning Center, located at 7315 Georgia Ave. NW, offering lessons, group classes and behavioral workshops.
