Fashion Star – round 2!

21 Mar

by Yulia Mikhalchuk

Second episode of “Fashion Star” just finished and as usual, you can already shop for winning garments!

Have to note, I am sad for Ross (would love to have all his jackets especially pink plaid! so what the fabric it’s too thick – it can wait till fall!) and Orly with her cream dress with lace detailing on the bottom. Would wear that in a wink. Crossing fingers for them both next week!

Oscar should reconsider his profession, he would really do well as a stand up comedian (well, and do a part-time tailoring for night clubs). Although I have to admit, if not for him, there wouldn’t be much color on this show. Oh well, except for that turquoise tunic with a mouth on the back. What is it with designers who don’t know much about gravitation? If the garment is made of light fabric and has horizontal slits… what do they think will happen?

Ok enough about sadness! Here are the pictures and links where you can buy the winners!

First, plaid shift dress by Kara Laricks for $325.00 in Saks Fifth Avenue (available online now, will be available in stores Wednesday morning). Congratulations to Kara on jumping from “No offer”-s to a bidding war between buyers! She landed at $100,000.00 offer from Saks!

Second, amazing shirts by Nzimiro Oputa for $70.00 in Macy’s – available in stripes and white

Also in Macy’s, my favorite items of this week, dresses by Lisa Vian Hunter for $99.00 (available in pink and black&white)

Last, but not least, trousers by Sarah in H&M for just $19.95 (in blue and in white)

Happy shopping to you! And don’t forget to tune in for live web chat on NBC Washington next Tuesday at 10 p.m.!  The one from today is available to read HERE.

Elie Tahari’s spring fashions

19 Mar

by Yulia Mikhalchuk

Many Tahari’s fans concentrated in “Wear now” on Three in Saks Fifth Avenue Tysons this Saturday.  Freshest spring fashions (and in this weather it feels like it’s time for the fall trends) were presented in very brief but substantial fashion show the spectators got to absorb what’s on this season. Neutrals and subtle colors, nothing edgy, all very classy and feminine, as it always happened under Tahari brand. Sangrias and delicious fingerfoods were riding trays all around, shopping was active, and somebody won a clutch in a raffle!

Enjoy the pictures as usual.

January Jones on Mad Men season 5 premiere

15 Mar

by Yulia Mikhalchuk

It is better to be controversial than boring if you want to be talked about. Now being one of the leading stars of “Mad Men” series, and definitely a leading female character, one mustn’t worry about lack of attention. But, there can’t be too much attention. January Jones arrived to season 5 premiere of “Mad Men” in Roland Mouret black cutout dress – the only thing that wasn’t “Betty Draper”. The hair, the make up, the classy black pumps, and even coral nail polish all mirrored our fav “Birdie”. All, except the dress.

Love the color blocking, but the holes resembling a ski mask holes that robbers go to banks in, are just too much, in my opinion. She has much more prettier face up there and the one located on the belly is just pulling “the blanket” too aggressively. Reminded me persistently about bed sheet ghost made by Karlsson (Russian cartoon after Astrid Lindgren book). See the picture.

Fashion star debut, DC resonance

15 Mar

by Yulia Mikhalchuk

“Fashion Star” pilot aired yesterday on NBC and planted quite a buzz among DC fashion peeps. NBC Washington set up a web chat topped by Angie Goff, and co-supported by many DC fashion scientists. Hour and a half of the show, as well as a chat, was concentrated and rockety quick. Even commercial breaks on TV didn’t put off the bubbling conversation on the web.

Garments bought by Macy’s‘, Saks Fifth Avenue’s and H&M’s representatives, were instantly available for sale on stores’ websites, and by this moment some of them are sold out.

Show airs every Tuesday on 10/9c on NBC.

As Angie suggested, there might be Fashion Star viewing parties scheduled in the nearest future.

Nikki Poulos' maxi caftan dress, also in white, sold out on Macy's for $89.00

Zipper mini-skirt available in Saks Fifth Avenue for $350

Sarah Parrott's dress, also in black, sold out on H&M, was $19.95

Edmont Newton's dress, also in black, for $110.00 in Macy's

Lizzie Parker's tunic, plum, also in black and ivory, for $79 in Macy's

Blazer by Nzimiro Oputa, in H&M for $49.95

The remaining garments are available HERE, HERE and HERE

Saturday afternoon lots of Jimmy Choos have been walked off by many passionate fashionistas in private reception room in Saks Fifth Avenue Tysons Galleria. The invite-only event attracted shoe lovers and media (one doesn’t exclude the other), for the trend presentation by Karen Sommer Shalett, Editor-in-Chief of DC Magazine, and a chance to win a pair of Jimmys! March Martini Madness – MMM

13 Mar

by Yulia Mikhalchuk

It is very curious to me why you have to become mad particularly in March (even new season of “Mad Men” premiers in March), but it is what it is so we are officially allowed to do so. If you choose to go bananas by drinks, and martinis are your favorites, then it is your straight road to Bethesda Row. For the whole month of March, 10 restaurants there are offering their special Row-tinis for happy hour price all day long. Make your pick and visit  one, few, or all of them, – to eat and sip on your favorite.

Patrons can vote for the best Row-tini once a day on Facebook at facebook.com/BethesdaRow and enter to win a $500 dining certificate for up to ten guests from one of the participating restaurants at www.BethesdaRow.comThe winner will be randomly drawn from all entries on BethesdaRow.com.  The winner will be emailed directly and announced on Facebook by April 5, 2012. Dining certificate expires December 31, 2012.
