Pakistani fashions shine around

17 May

by Yulia Mikhalchuk

“Spring Fashion Fling” attracted nearly 200 people  to Cafe Asia on Saturday, May 14. Pakistani designer Deepak Perwani, although not in attendance personally, received warm (even hot!) ovations for his fashion creations. This time, not only special Pakistani clothing was presented – the collection contended women jackets, shorts, pencil skirts etc., without loosing authentic flavor. Still, every garment was neatly decorated, but seems like Mr.Perwani is about to enter American market where any woman with any ethnic background can dress and stand out in the crowd. As always, vibrant colors and exquisite fabrics dominated in the collection, and every piece was unique.

Fashion show was produced by Sofia HD, Nida Zubairi and team.

Last round of the show. As you can see on far left and far right, there are some very contemporary, but still authentic pieces.

On Saturday, May 14 The Fairmont Washington DC and Pink Palm Bethesda Row hosted “Tickled Pink, VIII” to benefit Make a Wish Foundation of the Mid-Atlantic. The Mother-Daughter Lilly Pulitzer Fashion Show & Afternoon Tea was sold out way in advance, so only very selected Moms and Daughters might attend to compose almost Royal atmosphere, celebrate Mother’s day once again (Mother’s day should be every day!), and support a great cause.  You can not find more appropriate place for event like that than The Colonnade at the Fairmont!

Enjoy the pictures of Moms and Daughters in matching “Lillies” and stay tuned for 9th Annual.

Fashion Delegate celebrates 1st Anniversary

14 May

by Yulia Mikhalchuk

Fashion Delegate celebrated its First Anniversary in private loft apartment on Massachusetts ave in DC. DressHopper, not even being DressHopper that day yet, was invited to witness this blog being born, last May in Clinton Portis‘ house. Since that day, The Fashion Delegate grew up, matured and surrounded itself with huge swarm of fans and followers, which was proven once again by fullness of the house. Lobbyist Jennifer Fisher and Marketing executive Portia Hood, founders of Fashion Delegate, thanked everybody for support during the first year and introduced featured designer – Deidre Jefferies of ESPION.Atelier. Along with tumultuous ovations, Ms.Jefferies received a surprise introduction to Diandre Tristan (stylist for “Good Morning, America“), who expressed his passionate wish to collaborate in the nearest future. Tristan works with many celebrities, i.e. he recently styled Rihanna for her “California King bed” video. It will be so exciting to see fashionable pieces produced in our own DC, working on National (an maybe International?) level. Deidre is already providing her services as a wardrobe stylist  for future film directed by Sheldon Candis and produced by Sean Banks (both in attendance that evening).

Artist Lisa Jones had her very unique art work displayed on the walls of the apartment during the event, with sales benefiting so well known Becky’s Fund.  Now, not only FD does show interest in fashion and politics, but also in arts, charities and public movements.

The event was hosted by Fashion Washington of Washington Post, now we all cross our fingers and toes and anxiously await for Deidre Jeferries featured on their colorful pages!

Great thanks to Michael Melton, President of 100 Black Men DC, for the hospitality.

True philanthropist would even use his Birthday to give back

07 May

by Yulia Mikhalchuk

Don Patron celebrated his “17″-th Birthday to support “Open door shelter” in Southeast DC. For very famous “Unbirthday Birthday” party more than 300 people RSVP-d and seemed like even more came.  Every guest has been asked to buy a present… for a child in shelter. Those who didn’t have time (or simply didn’t know how) for toy shopping, could simply leave a check made to that charity. Who else but Don knows how to throw a fabulous party where everybody would eat, drink, dance, love and be loved, and enjoy artistic atmosphere of the house! That house was soaked in creativity, and guests felt free to correspond – there were lots of costumes and elements – the party was anything but plain! And, benefited a great cause.

06 May

by Yulia Mikhalchuk

The only thing uncooperative that evening was the weather, but who will remember! Despite the freeze and breeze (Lumber shed at “The Yards”), the atmosphere was so heated by passion, love and laughter, and all were so ecstatic…  that you might possibly light matches off the air.

This year Modus Union pleased everybody by spectacular fashion show of Marc Bouwer‘s fall collection. Gorgeous, feminine gowns, fine detailed, celebrating woman’s body, graced the runway and provoked lots of “awwws” and “aaaahs” and applauding. Famous Ted Gibson, celebrity hair stylist and star of “What not to wear”, leaded the hair team.

There were musical performances by Sheena Alexis, Gordon Sterling Trio feat, Cadice Mills, Sam James & GMB, and Reagan Richards. More warmth by laughter in the crowd was delivered by Fran Drescher – actress, philantropist and President of Cancer Shmancer movement.

Art section of event was presented by Lolly Amons, Walter Grio, Yanique Moore, Maggie O’Neill and Roger Schultz.

Modus Union 2011 was produced by “Labels for Love” and benefited Cancer Shmancer movement. Co-emceed by Boxer (morning personality on 98.7) and Kimberly Suiters (News4).
