District Sample Sale – spring 2011

They call themselves “The Season’s Most Fashionable Charitable Event”. They have donated over $200, 000 to the charities since 2006. They feature over 20 of Washington’s best designer clothing and shoe boutiques selling their end-of-season wares at liquidation-level prices, with many previewing their upcoming season looks at DSS-exclusive pricing. The District Sample Sale also offers cocktails, hors d’oeuvres from their participating restaurants, a fashion-focused silent auction, raffle, goodie bag (with VIP tickets) and more. There is always a long line way before the door opening, wrapping around the building, and it says a lot.

It is semi-annual event so prepare yourself for The Fall 2011! And meanwhile, enjoy the pictures from March 29, 2011.

Reception in Croatian Embassy to honor Miss America

On March 28, The Embassy of Croatia was “attacked” by the cloud of beauty. The youngest in contest history, 17 y.o. Miss America Teresa Scanlan, was accompanied by 15 top Misses of the competition, to the reception. Organized to celebrate Miss America’s Croatian roots, the “fiesty” event was attended by several hundreds invitees. The Misses were escorted by Marine Barracks Washington 8th & I. The  Croatian Ambassador to America Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic invited all the guests and Misses to visit beautiful Croatia. Teresa Scanlan announced that she is very proud of her Croatian heritage. Although she has not visited her original country for several years now, she will do so next year, as she promised to her Grandparents, still living on Croatian island Ilovik.

Lincoln lifted his hat for a private party

Very high anticipated Lincoln restaurant and lounge seemed to have hundreds of people under its roof on Thursday night. O’Neill studios, that renovated and beautified and revamped the whole space, hosted a private viewing event. Free drinks, delicious bites, best-of-the-best decor and atmosphere – what better evening spending you can think of? After such a successful pre-opening party, you can only imagine how overflown it’s going to be on a public opening day!

“Return to the renaissance”  décor is so unique – from all_pennies_floor, “copper” doors, jar “light bulbs”, monochrome paper American flag wall… to ginormous leather chair/sofa, candle chandeliers and misted mirrors.

Maggie O’Neill‘s paintings and Dominique Fierro‘s photography work in the restrooms attracted so much traffic, men into ladies’ and vice versa, those rooms served more as galleries!

Imagine that you come to a museum, and also get the finest food “chefed” by Demetrio Zavala.

5th Annual Pink Tie party

Eat, drink and be CHERRY – that was the official motto for the 5th Annual Pink Tie Party – fundraiser and kick-off to the “season of the blossoms”. This year it was held on March 23 in The Mayflower® Renaissance Washington, DC Hotel, and featured metro-DC’s top chefs’ delicious cherry- and blossom- inspired cuisine and cocktails. Celebrated Chef Host was Richard Sandoval. Guests were offered variety of fingerfoods, desserts and drinks, along with marvelous entertainment. Proceeds benefited the National Cherry Blossom Festival, Inc., a 501 (c)(3) not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting the beauty of nature and international friendship through year-round programs, events, and educational initiatives that enhance our environment, showcase arts and culture, and build community spirit.

Awesome foundation launch party

On March 23, in One Lounge DC, Awesome Foundation had a launch party. Six projects had displayed their presentations and attendants had an opportunity to get familiar with them and then vote for the best.

“Raining Arts and Dogs” fundraiser at Hudson

Always occupied Hudson restaurant and lounge had yet another doggy event under the roof – first annual “Raining Arts and Dogs” party, benefiting Washington Humane Society. All doggy lovers came together to support pioneer artists of the event, who were not afraid to get their paws dirty for the sake of art. Four paintings were created and auctioned off to support WHS.

Kids for animals dress up show

On Saturday, March 12, so many adults and kids gathered at Crystal City Shops for Junior League of Washington event. For tickets bought in advance people could purchase variety of items for bargain prices. There was also Kids Jamz – Mural – project. At the top of that, 11 families came to support “Fashion for paws” fundraiser – Kids for Animals dress-up show. Fourteen beautiful girls wore special flower girl dresses by Elizabeth St.John and get their pictures taken with their favorite stuffed animal, to symbolize real “Fashion for paws” . Alltogether, over $500 has been raised for Washington Humane Society.

Spring starts in Phila and spreads explosively

Every year, Pennsylvania Horticultural Society and Philadelphia Green get benefited from International Flower show. It lasts from Sunday to Sunday, first week of March, and represents different theme each year. In 2011, it was “Springtime in Paris”. Not only was there a base of Eiffel Tower, with blooming cherries surrounding it, but there was also  a light_and_music show, seas of flowers and compositions, whole sets with houses-furniture etc. It is the one show, for sure, that’s indescribable by words and better be seen. It is the biggest indoor flower show in the country. Dates of this show are preset till 2018 now. The theme of  2012 is going to be “The islands of Aloha”, it will take place on March 4-11, 2012,  and tickets will be available online starting October, 2011 here.

Night of recognition by Arts for Autism

On March, 9, L2 in Georgetown was filled with framed pictures, those who are on the pictures, and those who made those pictures happen. Arts for Autism hosted a Night of Recognition – to honor the fund raising models, who helped to raise more than $57,000, and photographers and videographers, who helped to cover the annual Gala on November 6, 2010.
