Adams Morgan pageant: beauty should be shown!

31 Oct

Text and photos

by Yulia Mikhalchuk

They call it “private event” and yet it created so much buzz nobody could park in miles radius around Washington Hilton.

Just a remark, such prestigious (and huge!) hotel right in the heart of nation’s capital, should care more about their guests and show attendants in terms of parking. They say “it’s full” and you could see two cars parked on three spots, and some old dirty carpet is “parked” there, too, on Saturday night not less! I’ve seen Divas, certainly pageant participants,  circling around few times and leaving who-knows-where, disappointed.

With that aside, “fantasious” event!

Enjoy the pictures.

Pink boa event at Josephine’s

29 Oct

Text and photos

by Yulia Mikhalchuk

Breast cancer awareness month is almost over, but breast cancer itself never sleeps and never takes vacations. Nobody could realize it better and explain it better to others than those who’ve been through it. There were so many pink boas worn and stories told on Thursday night at Josephine. Tigerlily foundation was ending “pink” month with a blast – by event with sharing stories and feeling the importance of life and love. “Love heals, – says Tigerlily founder Maimah Karmo, – even if you don’t survive, – love will heal your heart and your soul”.

This event will benefit the family of Mariel Berrios-Riebe, one of Tigerlily’s Fearless Females who lost her life to the disease on October, 19.

Special respect to those MEN coming for support and wearing PINK BOA.

Breathe.

Art + “Science” = Philanthropy

28 Oct

Text and photos

by Yulia Mikhalchuk

On Wednesday night “Science” club has transformed into photo gallery. Seems like inviting people into a bar with free first drink is a very effective way to attract them to art and philanthropy.  Four digital artists – Nader Aghili, Natalya Skiba, Berkay Demirkan and Liliane Blom – were selling their pieces to benefit Doorways. Very tight, or should I say “cozy” space was packed and boiling with activity. So, if you are hunting for art and wish to go philanthropic at the same time, you don’t have to go to museum – next door bar would do, just look for information!

International Club of DC: Masquerade and Anniversary

25 Oct

Text,  photos and video

by Yulia Mikhalchuk

On the night of October, 23, in  The National Museum of Women in the Arts (can you ever find anything more significant?), International Club of DC delivered Annual Masquerade Ball and Seventh Anniversary Gala. Needless to say, the minute you step into the building, you find yourself like on a movie set. Well where else you are able to see so many tuxedos and gowns and masks at the same time? Classic music, performing by live orchestra, and gracefully twirling couples, just add to the feeling. In such atmosphere digital cameras and advanced cell phones look like alien devices from the future. It was absolutely most elegant evening you can imagine and you would not want to trade it for anything else. Food was absolutely expectational (contemporary, too) – consider yourself forget about diet for a while, although you could easily “dance it off” on this marvelous floor. And, the most important part, you don’t have to be “international” to attend.

Enjoy the montage.

All gallery is here.
