Bye-bye Betsey secret garden party

21 May

by Yulia Mikhalchuk

If I was asked to name three words associated with Betsey, first, I would definitely say FUN. Then, it would be COLOR, and GLITTER. This is what she is, this is what all “betsey girls” are, despite origin, age, religious or political views, or sexual orientation. She is The_Cosmopolite uniting women all over the world who are not afraid to stand out, even sometimes suggested to go to psych ward by some standard minds.

On Sunday May 20, secret garden behind “Betsey Johnson” store in Georgetown was filled with music, shiny shoes with bows, colorful tutus and chitah print/floral/lacey dresses. Everybody who cares came to virtually say their goodbyes, participate in glitter-bombing the yard, sip on pink cocktails and shop for nearly last time. The store on M street was occupied by BJ for 20 years and was favorited by many. Stream there if you want clearance betseys!

Whoever rents the spot afterwards, will be surprised by glitter trees blooming on the backyard the very next spring, because glitter seeds are definitely sowed.

Beautiful soulful music was delivered by two fabulous girls from “Sweater set” band.

By, Betsey. You will be hurtfully missed by millions.

Save-it-all pouch – Neckid!

29 Apr

by Yulia Mikhalchuk

Being a photographer and liking to wearing dresses on the events (yes I’m also a woman!). It is always a pain to just drop my bags somewhere in the corner and not having anything on me. You’d ask, what do I need beside the camera? I’d answer, all the stuff guys shove in their pockets, at least! A phone – that’s for starters. My business cards – that’s for sure. Credit cards (and ID) – needed! Some cash to tip bartenders and/or valet. A lipstick would be nice as well. Also, I need some place to put other people’s business cards. Even if I have a dress with pockets, never in a million years I’m going to be able to fit all this stuff in them without looking ridiculous. I’ve been trying to look and purchase some mini-bag that would go with everything and still be stylish. So when my model friend contacted me and told about this thing – Neckid pouch – I was convinced this is it!

When I got it in the mail – and guess what color I ordered – the one they call “orange slice” – I also discovered it has the softest insides! I now take it with me to the events and don’t have to run to my purse in the corner every time I need something!

They call it “Joeys” – and they are available in colors: Sweet Chocolate, Cotton Candy, Cherry, Pink Frosting, Marshmallow, Caramel, Blueberry, Grape, and Orange Slice, like mine! You also can choose different styles of necklaces to go with your Joey.

If you are my kind of gal – like to go to events and keep your hands free – then order your Neckid HERE.

Some pics, as usual!

the one they call "bigger inside than outside"

What was inside - phone, business cards (mine and others'), credit cards, cash.. Lipstick (slim one) would fit, too!

03 Apr

by Yulia Mikhalchuk

Neiman Marcus at Mazza Gallerie invited everybody on Thursday evening for fashionable but rare event in DC – it was all about men! Hugo Boss is landing in Neiman, and so many very special guests came to celebrate the fact. Although we see men’s fashions on the runways around the city, it is very unique to concentrate on men and men only! Matt Birk, Baltimore Ravens Center (and father of 6 at 35!) and fashion director of “Men’s Health” Brian Boye performed an interview, and then Matt signed limited edition pictures, to the joy of fans. Throughout the event, guests very much enjoyed Manhattans and wine and fingerfoods by  Fiola restaurant.

The 60ss, the steak, and the fashion

29 Mar

by Yulia Mikhalchuk

The night of March 25 was very well anticipated and buzzed about way in advance. It was THE_Mad_Men_night, when season 5 premiere aired. Many venues around the city (public and private) hosted viewing parties, but of course I will tell you about the one I attended, – in Bourbon Steak at Four Seasons DC. Private lounge was pure resemblance of that era, from beautiful outfits to floral table treatments, from waitresses’ uniforms to the drinks’ recipes… The only difference there were… nobody smoked (phew!) Two hours of season kick-off flew in a blink, and food and drinks never ended (too bad somebody had to drive home!)  Please enjoy the pictures!

Regarding the movie itself… I would say, it was “okay” appetizer – good enough to tease but not good enough to fully satisfy. It felt a little flat, like it was rushed and not thought out, like producers decided to rest on the clouds for a while. It would get full house anyway, why bother too much! Of course, fashions were impeccable. To me the most impressive is always not what leading actresses wear, but large crowds appearing on the screen for literally seconds!

Question of the evening – WHERE IS BETTY?

Sarah Mais and Gavin W Bowie

Amazing salad with marshmallows!

martini and olive

Vintage coat of Cyndy Esty

marvelous dessert!

Yes it is spring in Four Seasons!
